Shelter Island Market Reports

During a Socially Distanced Thanksgiving, an Abundance of Gratitude – Thanksgiving 2020

Since the springtime, the real estate market on Shelter Island has continued to be robust. As I predicted in my early summer market report, there has been a veritable tsunami of closings since Labor Day. After the 2016 Presidential election and then the December 2017 SALT tax reform, in 2018 the real estate market here had flattened, with the highest sale that year a little over $2M. It has since been steadily recovering, and at the beginning of 2020 there was a healthy selection of properties for buyers to choose from.

Here is a selection of sold homes since October 1, 2020

This season, gratitude has been more than an attitude, it’s become a daily way of life. There is renewed hope in the real estate market today: from sellers who have seen an appreciative audience, to buyers happily ensconced in their new nests, to real estate agents, like myself, who have been productive. This Thanksgiving, with my mother lost to Covid-19, there is one empty chair at our family dinner table. But the gifts of good will, confidence, trust and kindness from my loyal clients and customers and friends buoy my spirit, and these are the valued relationships that I treasure even more so this year.
